Dazey's Supply and Stephen's Glass were founded by Stephen Dazey way back when....
Stephen Dazey moved to Southern Humboldt from the Bay area in 1970 to escape the fast paced life that already existed there. He and a partner set up a custom saw mill to provide lumber to the many homesteaders that were settling in the area.
In 1974 Stephen purchased a commerciallot in Redway where Dazey's stands today. This lot served as a place to sell his lumber products. He was there on Tuesdays but folks could stop by and pick up wood any time on the Honor System.
While building a cabin glass entered the picture. Seeing the need for economical glass he purchased windows and glass from wholesalers that were closing out or had overstocked inventories in the Bay Area. Glass was easier to obtain and sell and there was local demand. So Stephen's Glass became the bargain place to buy all your glass needs.
In 1982, business started showing prophet and the first phase of what is now Dazey's was built. Completed in '84, he sold glass and soil amendment. He bought the lot next door for future growth. He soon started selling plumbing and hardware supplies. Large quantities of odd lot products were purchased to fill the demand that was customer driven.
In 1995 the second phase of the building was completed; a street front 2 story section was added and named Dazey's Supply. The old wooden cash drawers were replaced by an updated point of sale cash register/accounting system and was at this time Stephen hired Jeff Haas as assistant manager.. Soon after in '97 Stephen retired from business to pursue his hobby of collecting and selling lumber and volunteering many many hours to the community including the conception, development and managment of the Community Park in 1999 to the present.
